2021 Mazda CX-3 Comes Updated

THE Mazda CX-3 sees new updates for 2021 to stay engaging and well connected. In Mazda’s words, the CX-3 is updated with a ‘modern, stylish cabin’ that has new leatherette-fabric seats and 360-degree View Monitor as standard for this year’s model.

This is complemented by other standard premium features such as Active Driving Display, a seven-inch full-colour touchscreen display with Mazda Connect, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio, and a six-speaker audio system. These features are assessed via the multi-function commander knob or steering wheel-mounted controls.

For the exterior, newly added features to its aesthetics include a power sunroof and front parking sensors. As it were, the CX-3 already comes well ‘attired’ with standard all-LED (light emitting diode) lighting – headlamps, taillamps and daytime running lights – with the headlamps having automatic on/off and automatic levelling capabilities. Other aesthetic complements include the 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels (215/50 R18 tyres), roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, dual stainless steel exhaust pipes and an ‘understated’ black front grille.

In standard safety technology, the CX-3 would hold its own against rivals but adding to the lustre for 2021 are the High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning System, Driver Attention Alert and Smart City Brake Support for front and rear. This expands the CX-3’s i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety package that features Blind Spot Monitoring with rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

The powertrain is continued in the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 (1998cc) petrol engine that delivers 113kW (154hp) at 6000rpm and 206Nm torque from 2800rpm for spirited acceleration (top speed is given as 197km/h). It is paired with the SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and ‘premium performance’ driving feel is enjoyed via the Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control technology.

Adding to the Mazda CX-3’s allure is that it continues to be an imported front-wheel drive SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), brought in from Japan. There are five colour options to tempt the palate – Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Machine Gray and the newly added Polymetal Gray.

It carries an attractive price for an imported SUV at RM130,729 on the road without insurance. This is inclusive of the 50 per cent Sales Tax reduction for CBU (complete built-up) models that applies till end June. The CX-3 comes with a five-year Manufacturer Warranty and five-year or 100,000km free maintenance that includes labour, parts and lubricants. - LPS
